What To Look For in A Travel Agent

Before You Book and Pay Any Money

  • Word of mouth is the best recommendation.
  • Make sure the agency is licensed.
  • Has the consultant actually been to the area you wish to visit? However it is a very good idea to read up on the area yourself.
  • A good consultant listens to your needs and should give advice accordingly.
  • Beware of being sold just the one product when there are usually other comparative ones on the market.
  • Ask to see other brochures. A good consultant should be completely unbiased.
  • There must be mutual respect between both parties.
  • Do not be totally price driven, service may be far more important.

After You Pay The Deposit

  • Have all conditions of the booking been explained including non-refundable deposits?
  • The receiving of the deposit is the most important aspect both from a consultant's point of view and yours.
  • Has insurance been offered? It doesn't have to be accepted but it must be offered.
  • Have visa and health requirements been explained?
  • Are you happy with all arrangements? If not, then ask the consultant whatever you must to ensure you are happy with all your bookings. In the end, it is your holiday.

After You Pay The Balance

  • When all tickets and documents are ready, make sure your consultant explains everything to you.
  • Make sure you understand all your arrangements and double check everything before you depart the country.
  • It is a good idea to photocopy all tickets and documents including your passport - leave a copy with family and take a copy with you (separate to the real ones).

After You Depart The Country

  • The after-travel service and advice should be as good as the pre-travel service and advice.
  • Do you have the consultant's phone and fax number in case something happens overseas?
  • Enjoy your holiday!
