Austria
The Alps in the east and the Danube in the west there is much to offer in this German speaking country. Cycle along the Danube from Passau to Vienna or walk in the Dachstein Mountains near Innsbruck. There are many colour coded paths which take you deep into the mountains. One minute you are alone on the track and the next you are sitting in a warm hut enjoying a hot plate of Suppe followed by a refreshing beer. On my Danube cycle trips you will enjoy the Wachau, a World Heritage Area and one of the most beautiful parts of Austria
Colin's Suggestion
After cycling along the Danube stay in Vienna for a few days and inspect the architecture and history of the Hapsburgs. There are also so many day trips possible from Vienna. For example, Bratislava, the capital of Slovakia, is only ninety minutes by hydrofoil away. Another excellent day trip, this time by car, is the village of Mikulov, just across the border in the Czech Republic. Mikulov is a small historic town with cobbled streets and dominated by its own castle. It is situated in the very heart of a wine region and if you are there in the second week of September you can be part of the traditional Plava vine harvest and wine festival.
